Diagnosis:
differs from Cordulegasteridae in female lacking ovipositor; male tibiae keeled; wings variously coloured, opaque, or hyaline.
Type species:
Chlorogomphus magnificus Selys, 1854. by monotypy.

Commentary:
traditionally placed as a subfamily within the Cordulegasteridae, appears to be the sistergroup to the Cordulegasteridae s.s.
